International Travel continues in Far North Queensland

It is exciting times for Tropical North Queensland as we launch our new destination branding. I encourage not just the tourism industry but the entire region to get behind the “Change Your Latitude” message.
Many of you have done just that by moving here from elsewhere in Australia or the world because you fell in love with this tropical paradise, so be sure to encourage your family, friends and acquaintances to visit and experience what we offer here in Australia’s tropical paradise.
This is a great opportunity for Topical North Queensland, Australia’s only true tropical destination. Such is the nature of our destination that no matter how cleverly we market it, access via aviation is crucial to our success.
The big news at the end of last year was the takeover of Qantas. We welcomed the potential of this move to strengthen both the Qantas and Jetstar brands. One of the first tests of this will be the commencement of Jetstar services into Cairns from Osaka and Nagoya later this year.
This month sees additional Qantas 747 flights from Hong Kong arrive here for Chinese New Year while Cathay Pacific has increased its regular flights into Cairns from Hong Kong to six weekly.
Late last year Virgin Blue announced plans to launch a long-haul international airline on US-Australian routes. This, along with the potential expansion of their domestic routes, could help us grow capacity into Cairns and Tropical North Queensland.
TTNQ and the Cairns Port Authority have a long history of strong partnerships with the major airlines servicing Cairns.
As the aviation sector adapts to the challenging times we will continue to work closely with all the domestic and international airlines which are either already flying into Cairns or have the potential to do so to ensure that air access for Cairns and Tropical Australia continues to expand to meet the growing demand.
